This & That: Lonely Little Kitsch’s single “Somewhere Else”

Spinning Lonely Little Kitsch’s new track “Somewhere Else” the 3rd week of May 2026 on the show.

It’s a song about people who copy and paste themselves,” says songwriter and vocalist Kristen Goetz. “They see others doing something interesting and need to believe they can do it better. You find it everywhere—in music, in business, and in everyday life. There’s always someone who wants what you’ve achieved and is convinced they deserve it more.

While mellower than LLK’s usual brand of alt-rock, “Somewhere Else” is one of the earliest songs Kristen and Nolan wrote together. Originally slated as an album song and not necessarily a single, the toned-down release feels like a fitting bridge between their punchier, more aggressive-sounding singles.

The phrase ‘three chords and the truth’ was coined in the 1950s, and I’d say we haven’t deviated much from that,” says guitarist and songwriter Nolan Jodes. “Songs don’t have to be complicated to move you. This one follows the simple rule that less is more. Simple riffs like “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” “Seven Nation Army,” “Blister In The Sun,” “Paradise City”…these are basic tunes from a guitar standpoint, but the vocal hooks are killer. I think that’s the blueprint for “Somewhere Else”.

To go along with the release is yet another DIY, $0 budget video by the band—this time shot and edited on an old phone that shouldn’t even be able to power on and featuring the journey of a one-handed skeleton named Skelly.
