This & That Gatlin Black – “One Last Chance”

Today I’m sharing the debut single from Pembroke, Ontario’s Gatlin Black. The new song, “One Last Chance,” marries modern alt rock with a catchy 50s twist. “In a world full of polished radio-driven writing and production, this song stands out as a beacon of hope to those aspiring to create their own brand of rock n roll while still keeping true to the natural sound of live off the floor recording,” says the band about the idea behind the style.

At the same time, “One Last Chance” is a very personal one for Gatlin Black frontman and founder, Jake Weckwerth. The song represents tough relationships, battling addictions, and ultimately finding a fresh start on the other side.

“One Last Chance was written during a time of personal turmoil and at the height of my cocaine and alcohol addiction. At the same time, I was also in a dead-end relationship but was determined to battle on for her love despite self-sabotage and repetitive hairy situations. Through the good and the bad one theme was continuous – I was always begging for One Last Chance,” Jake says.

“After losing every battle I finally had won the war, choosing a clean and sober lifestyle in order to put my health, goals, dreams and people I love and care about first. When the song finally arrived on my doorstep, I quickly realized that the lyrics were no longer the scratched-out ramblings of a madman, but were the scriptures of my new beginnings.”

A new way of life provided a renewed energy and paved the way for productivity and musical creativity. With the band’s support and hard work, this led to fresh material and a 7-song EP from Gatlin Black, due for release in 2026.

The debut single, “One Last Chance” is now streaming everywhere, alongside an official video release.
