Influenced by Depeche Mode, Alison Moyet, and The Terminator theme (naturally), “Skin and Bones” is moody, hypnotic, and a bit libidinous. The dark, cinematic synth soundscape serves as a background for dreamy lyrics that ponder sex, love, and whether or not a broken person can form a real connection to somebody else.
“It’s hard to classify; a little experimental, synth-y for sure. Pop. Yeah. I like it, so I play it!” – Shellshocked Radio (YouTube)
The Urnfields are Patrick Lenover and Maia Kirby, an independent electronic song writing duo from
Brantford, Ontario.
The Urnfields began in 2019 after they decided to put their guitars down (momentarily) and explore the realm of electronic music as a medium to write sophisticated pop songs relevant to the here and now
of their adult lives.
Inspired by Peter Gabriel, Nine Inch Nails, Erasure, Pulp, classical music, and retro video games, Lenover is
the sonic architect behind The Urnfields’ synth-driven soundscapes.
Kirby’s unique lyrical storytelling and evocative vocals bring both darkness and light to
The Urnfields’ music, digging deep to explore the depths of grief and loss as well as the
tender, murky waters of modern love. Her songwriting is influenced by Talk Talk, David
Bowie, Depeche Mode, and Kate Bush.
After successfully releasing a number of genre-defying singles that explore their various
electronic influences, The Urnfields are currently working on their first full-length album.
“Skin and Bones” was written and recorded by The Urnfields and mastered by Noah Mintz at Lacquer Channel Mastering in Toronto, Ontario.
