Pitch Blender at the Pier Sunday August 18, 2024 ✻ 6-8PM A FREE 3-part monthly music series at the Gantry Crane, Pier 8 Presented by the City of Hamilton
The City of Hamilton and local community choir, Earth, Wind, & Choir (EW&C), are presenting a three-part music series on the third Sunday of every month at an iconic Hamilton landmark. On Sunday August 18, Pier 8’s Gantry Crane, a testament to the city's rich history of industry, culture, and community, will once again be brought to life with idiosyncratic music styles, poetry, art installations and vendors - all of whom are from EW&C’s extensive network of creatives.
Tender poetry and digital bleeps and bloops will kick off the evening and tie each performance together, courtesy of Bugg Davis and An Shrub. Joyful Joyful will bring texturally rich ambient harmonies. Beverly and Elizabeth Glenn-Copeland headline the evening with critically renowned compositions and genre-bending electronic modulations. Visual artist Andres Miramontes manifests the magic of these harmonious dusks into art installations.
The premier event of this series was Sunday July 21. Illuminated by a setting sun, a backdrop of ships and industry at Pier 8’s Gantry Crane was brought to life with the energetic, fiery and powerful prose of Lishai Peel, Hamilton’s Poet in Place, complemented by the hypnotic and atmospheric soundscapes of Malfiore. High-energy performances from local synthwave duo, Concavity and power-pop group, Slow Reader brought high-energy performances that brought the audience to their feet.
More than just a choir, EW&C was founded in 2009 by Sarah Good and Annie Shaw. Based in Hamilton’s North End, this community ensemble has been a creative outlet for 100 unique members over 15 years. Notable alumni of EW&C include Terra Lightfoot and Lee Reed and the choir has appeared on recordings with Wax Mannequin and Sianspheric. EW&C’s values of creativity and curiosity have sparked connections resulting in dynamic collaborations between local musicians and collectives.
