Mills Hardware Presents Linda McLean & The Awakening Sun, Oct 19 at 8:00 PM @ Mills Hardware

Linda McLean is a singer and writer of songs and books. She has released several albums including Betty’s Room and No Language, both of which garnered critical acclaim internationally. Her short story “Dreaming Margaret Atwood” won the Nova Scotia Writes Award for Creative Non-Fiction, and she’s the author of several books, including A Guide to Your Creative Genius, reflections and contemplation from her decades of teaching in the creative arts. Like her songs, McLean’s memoir The Importance of Being Important is gutsy and real. Born to an immigrant family, raised in poverty and neglect, she tells the heartbreaking consequences of bad choices and the struggle to reclaim her creative life. McLean was 40 before she released her first two albums and toured internationally. When she’s not touring or playing with her band, Linda McLean & The Awakening, Linda writes, gardens and lives in rural Nova Scotia, Canada with her husband Andy.

From busking on the streets of her hometown of Burlington to performing on legendary stages, Charissa has been honing a thoughtful, meditative approach to songwriting and has created a sound that suits her authentic self. She has built up an impressive repertoire of original music, a unique blend of alternative country and soul. Her lyrics bare all, emotional and relatable, Charissa transforms life moments into catchy universal truths. She is currently in the studio and excited to release more new music in 2025!  She has collaborated with some big names in the Canadian music scene, including the late Skip Prokop, guitarist/producer Colin Cripps (Blue Rodeo), Tom Wilson (Blackie and the Rodeo Kings) and Singer/Songwriter Lori Yates. After signing her first record deal with Coalition Music Records, she released her debut EP Love and Be Loved in 2022, produced by Cripps.  At heart, Charissa is a storyteller. “The best stories are ones that don’t shy away from honesty. As an artist, I think sharing your own truth is important.  I’m going to write what I might be afraid to say out loud.” That vulnerability combined with her lush flowing arrangements and powerful vocals makes her a force to be reckoned with.
