Bridgeworks + Y108 Present Junkhouse Fri, Nov 21 at 8:00 PM @ Bridgeworks

JUNKHOUSE return home after a summer of fantastic festival shows with some good ‘ol high volume top 10 hits and a pocket full of super soul. Hamilton rock band Junkhouse was formed in 1989 by guitarist and singer Tom Wilson, fresh from the demise of cult legends The Florida Razors. Never one to stay off the road for long, Wilson enlisted friends Dan Achen on guitars, drummer Ray Farrugia, and Russ Wilson (no relation) on bass. The band began gigging steadily, carving out a reputation on the club circuit, and eventually inking the major label deal that eluded the Razors. Throughout the ’90s, Junkhouse recorded several singles and albums, starting with their 1993 debut Strays, which produced several standout tracks, including hits like “Out of My Head” “Praying For The Rain” and “Jesus Sings the Blues”. Sophomore album Birthday Boy followed in 1995, Russ Wilson’s final outing with the band. The album featured the singles “Burned Out Car” (a duet between Wilson and  Sarah McLachlan) as well as “Brown Shoe,” and “Father Gone”, all of which helped make itthe group’s second straight gold record.  1997’s Fuzz, which was recorded at Achen’s Catherine North Studio in Hamilton, marked the arrival of new members — keyboardist and guitarist Colin Cripps (who had recorded the band’s 1991 demo cassette) and bassist Grant Marshall, who replaced Russ Wilson. The album yielded the band’s biggest hits to date in “Pearly White” and “Shine” but the band would dissolve the following year. Their reputation has only grown since then.  Sony released the immaculately titled double-disc best-of Rounders in 2002, a compilation of material from Junkohouse’s three studio albums, as well as their cover of Crowbar’s “Oh What A Feeling” and several previously unreleased tracks (including an appearance from mentor and friend Daniel Lanois on the live version of “Praying For The Rain”). Now, 30 years after the release of sophomore album Birthday Boy, the band returns to the stage to deliver an evening of stone-cold Canadian classics and solid-gold stage banter from one of the best frontmen in the country. Spotify | Apple Music The Commune is a Hamilton-based folk-rock band founded in 2023 by Irish-Canadian singer/songwriter Finbar Wall. Roots-rock, alt-Americana, and the true folk tradition blend into a brand-new sound. Plainspoken and poetic lyricism complement the street-level rock ’n’ roll that has built The Commune’s formidable reputation as one of Hamilton’s most promising young live acts in the last decade. The Commune followed debut EP release Juma with their full-length LP The Fall (released Nov 23 2024).
